The Marietta Morning Rotary Club has partnered with the Club Rotario Panama Sur in the Republic of Panama to build restrooms and septic facilities for the Embera Drua indian village along the Chagres River in Panama this summer.
Marietta club members will travel to Panama to build the sanitary stations alongside the Panamanian Rotarians and Embera villagers. Currently, the village only has pit latrines. The Embera are now in need of a more sanitary and efficient restroom facility in order to accomodate not only its residents but also the many tourists and visitors to the village.
The village sustains itself in large part from ecotourism and sales of their handcrafted artifacts. The new restrooms and septic tanks will help them in their endeavor to promote tourism and, of course, sanitation. The village numbers about 80 people. You can learn more about the Embera Drua at

Water and sanitation initiatives are some of Rotary International's loftiest agenda items. The Marietta Morning Rotary Club is proud to participate in a project that will significantly improve the lives and health of this indigenous community in Panama.
